Membership is free, and anyone can join! Just visit any Myli library with some identification (for example, something that shows your name and current address). If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian will need to sign for you.
With your membership, you can borrow from any of our libraries and enjoy free access to online resources, programs, and services. Some services do have a cost, including printing, photocopying, and applications for 24/7 Access and Open-Access memberships.
Upon joining the library a new card will be processed and given to you. This membership allows you to borrow up to 40 items at a time. These may be borrowed from and returned to any of the Myli libraries, including the Mobile libraries.
To borrow items, patrons must present either their physical library card or a digital version via the Libraries Victoria app. If a card isn’t available, our staff will confirm your account using credentials like your date of birth, address, or phone number.
If your library card is lost or damaged, a replacement costs $4. Please note that when replacing or updating your card, you’ll receive a new membership number.
Library cards can be replaced by visiting your local Myli library branch.

Items in our physical collection are loaned for four weeks. Provided there are no holds on the item, it will automatically renew at the end of its loan period for another four weeks. If it remains eligible and there are still no holds, it will automatically renew a second time for a further four weeks.
If another member places a hold on the item, it will not renew again and must be returned by the due date shown on your account. Holds always take priority, so members waiting for items will not be delayed.
Please note: Auto-renewal will only occur if an email address is listed in the member’s profile under the “Addresses” tab. You can update your details through your online account, or by contacting or visiting your local library branch, where our team will be happy to assist.
Automatic renewals do not apply to magazines, Myli Hits titles, Library of Things items, digital collections such as eBooks, eAudiobooks and ePress, or streaming services such as Kanopy. Items with holds will not renew.
For more information about renewals, please click here.
Items can be returned to any of our branch libraries or the Mobile libraries. When checked in, items are automatically checked off the patron record. Items can also be returned in the after-hours book chute, available at most of our branch libraries.
Holds –
Holds can be placed on any of the books, magazines, talking books, videos, DVD’s or music CD’s which are on loan or at another branch. These items will then be delivered to your nominated branch free of charge. You will receive an email or text message to let you know when your hold is ready to collect.
Holds can be made in person, over the phone, or through the online catalogue or app.
Holds Limits –
You can have up to 20 items on hold at any time on your library card, including any items that have been suspended.
Please note that the hold limit for all Victorian public library services has been reduced to 20 as a result of a recent service update by Libraries Victoria. This change is intended to ensure a sustainable intra-library loan service that can better meet the needs of library patrons across Victoria. The reduction in hold limits is part of a three-month trial for the revised Libraries Victoria intra-library loans service model.
If you experience long wait times for your holds or if there are specific titles you are interested in that are not currently available, our staff can consider purchase requests to add more copies to our collection.
