Borrowing Information

Joining the Library

Membership is free and anyone can join. Just come along to any one of our libraries and bring something with your name and current address. Persons under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign for them.

Membership allows you to borrow at any of our libraries.

 

Borrowing, Renewing & Returning Items

Borrowing

Upon joining the library a new card will be processed and given to you. This card must be presented whenever borrowing from any of our libraries and allows you to borrow up to 40 items at a time. These may be borrowed from, and returned to any of the Myli libraries, including the Mobile library.

Renewals

You may renew item/items in person, by phone or through this website. Physical items can be renewed twice, that is, unless the item has a hold on it, or is in high demand.

Returning Borrowed Items

Items can be returned to any of our branch libraries or the Mobile library. When checked in, items are automatically checked off the patron record. Items can also be returned in the after-hours book chute, available at most of our branch libraries. 

 

Holds, Inter-Library Loans & Purchase Requests

Holds

Holds can be placed on any of the books, magazines, talking books, videos, DVD’s or music CD’s which are on loan or at another branch. These items will then be delivered to your nominated branch free of charge.

Holds can be made in person, over the phone, or through the online catalogue or app.

Libraries Victoria Our Shared Network

Your Myli library card gives you access to a shared collection of more than items 600,00 items from multiple library services across Victoria. You can browse and search for items using our online catalogue or app or ask staff for help. Place holds on these items to pick up at your local Myli library. Libraries Victoria OneCard Membership

One Card membership also means that you can use your Myli library card at any other participating Libraries Victoria library. There is no need to keep track of multiple membership cards for different member libraries. You can browse and search for items in the Libraries Victoria collection using our online catalogue or app or ask staff for help. You can make an inter-library loan request or purchase request on any of these items. You can visit and borrow from any of the 24 libraries that are part of the One Card. We encourage you to return items to the library where they were borrowed from – where possible. Additional expenses may apply for us to return items to other library services on your behalf.

Can’t find what you’re looking for in the Myli Collection or the Libraries Victoria Shared Collection? We can try to get it in from another library or we can consider purchasing it. For further information or if you require an inter-library loan, please contact your nearest Myli library.

Purchasing items

Do you have a suggestion for a book that you would like to see on Myli’s shelves? You can submit a purchase request or select titles on The Book Place for purchase consideration.

Are all Library services free?

Some services incur a fee:

        • Replacement Cards
        • Replacement of Lost or Damaged Items

Photocopying and Printing

Black and White – 20c per A4 copy / 40c per A3 copy (Double-sided = 2 copies)
Colour – 25c per A4 copy / 50c per A3 copy (Double-sided = 2 copies)

Inter-Library Loans

$30.30 from Interstate and Academic and Specialist Libraries per item.
$5.00 from Vic State Library (read in-branch only), non-Libraries Victoria Public Libraries, including LibsVic non-sharing libraries, per item.

Library Bags $2.50 each

USB Flash Drives – $8

Headphones – $3.00

Lost or Damaged Items

An amount is charged to cover the value of the items which are lost or too badly damaged to keep in the library. The amount is equal to the cost of the item.

Replacement Talking Books/CDs – $16.25 per CD

Overall Limit – Upper limit of accrued charges per adult borrower $10.00, Junior borrower $5.00. Loss of Library privileges (borrowing, use of internet/public use PC’s and hold placement ALL suspended)
