These frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) help answer questions you may have about the changes to your Emerald, Pakenham and Cardinia Mobile Library membership.
We’d love to hear from you. Please let us know if you have a question that’s not included here or if you have any comments.
Cardinia is joining Myli – My Community Library Ltd, a Not-for Profit and charity that already provides library services to the Shire’s of Baw Baw, Bass Coast and South Gippsland. The service the Cardinia community knows and loves will continue to meet and exceed the expectations of the community.
The City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council have jointly reached an agreement to pursue a different service model for the libraries in the future, which was prompted by several factors.
These include the significant growth and change in demographics of both communities and the Councils wanting to pursue new and separate service models for the library services, along with new legislation in the Local Government Act 2020 that requires the current regional library model be changed in the coming decade.
The Councils have realised the benefits in operating separate library services and have started taking the necessary steps to allow them to explore the opportunities for future service models independently.
After an extensive assessment and community consultation, Casey Council identified that CCL is best placed to be the community’s library service provider. Casey will work with the CCL Board and Executive Team to transition CCL into a compliant entity under the Local Government Act 2020.
Myli is a not-for-profit with charitable status. Myli will provide opportunities that will benefit members, the community, staff and Council. As a charity, there will be fundraising opportunities that will support investment in library services such as increasing programs and support for members and users.
Myli’s primary funding comes from Councils and the State Government, and this will continue.
Planning for the transition is taking place during October and November 2022 and the transition will be finalised on 30 November 2022.
Cardinia Shire Council has three libraries. Pakenham, Emerald and the Cardinia Mobile Library. These three libraries will join Myli from 1 December 2022.
All libraries that operate in the City of Casey will stay part of CCL. This includes Bunjil Place, Cranbourne, Doveton, Endeavour Hills and Hampton Park Libraries.
Current staff who work in Cardinia Shire Council Libraries will be offered positions with Myli. You can expect to see familiar faces when you visit the library after Cardinia joins Myli.
When you joined CCL your membership was assigned to the library you joined at. CCL has written to members informing them of the change.
