From 10 March 2026, Myli will introduce automatic renewals for eligible library items. We know life gets busy, so this change is designed to make borrowing easier and more convenient. If your item is eligible, it will automatically renew at the end of its loan period, for up to two renewals, so there is no need to log in or remember to renew it yourself.
How the renewals work
Items in our physical collection are loaned for four weeks. Provided there are no holds on the item, it will automatically renew at the end of its loan period for another four weeks. If it remains eligible and there are still no holds, it will automatically renew a second time for a further four weeks.
If another member places a hold on the item, it will not renew again and must be returned by the due date shown on your account. Holds always take priority, so members waiting for items will not be delayed.
Please note: Auto-renewal will only occur if an email address is listed in the member’s profile under the “Addresses” tab. You can update your details through your online account, or by contacting or visiting your local library branch, where our team will be happy to assist.
What is not included
Automatic renewals do not apply to magazines, Myli Hits titles, Library of Things items, digital collections such as eBooks, eAudiobooks and ePress, or streaming services such as Kanopy. Items with holds will not renew.
Notifications
Members will continue to receive library notices about due dates. If an item is not eligible for renewal, you will be notified via email so you can return it on time.
We recommend keeping your contact details up to date and checking your library account via our website or the Libraries Victoria app, along with your email notifications, to keep track of your due dates.
