Baw Baw Mobile Library – FAQs

Baw Baw Mobile Library – FAQs

In recent months, we have experienced some operational challenges that continue to affect the Baw Baw Mobile Library service. These challenges include driver shortages as well as the regular maintenance and servicing required to keep the vehicle safe and reliable on the road.

We understand these disruptions can be frustrating, and we want to keep you as informed as possible. To help, we’ve prepared the following Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Why are you experiencing driver shortages?

Our regular Baw Baw Mobile Library driver is recovering from an injury, and there are only a few trained staff available to cover. Driving the mobile library requires a special heavy vehicle license and library service skills, so disruptions to the schedule are expected.

  • Why haven’t you replaced the drivers?

Driving the mobile library is a specialist role that requires both a heavy combination vehicle license and library service skills. Recruitment is underway and in the meantime, we are actively working on arrangements to restore the service as soon as possible.

  • How can I check if the Mobile Library will be at my stop?

    Plan ahead:

    • Watch for email updates if you have registered ‘Baw Baw Mobile Library’ as your home library
    • If notice is less than 24 hours, we will also send an SMS alert
    • Or call our Support Centre on 1800 44 6954 before travelling
  • How are you keeping the community informed?

We provide weekly updates via email, our website, and our social media page. Library members who have registered to receive updates for the Baw Baw Mobile Library, by having it set as their home library will automatically receive these emails. If there are last-minute changes (less than 24 hours’ notice), we also send SMS alert.

  • When will the service return to normal?

We are actively working on driver arrangements and will continue to provide weekly updates until the full schedule resumes.

  • What if these disruptions cause me to have overdue books and/or fines?

If a service disruption prevents you from returning your items, contact our Support Team at support@myli.org.au or call 1800 44 6954. The Support Team can renew your items for you until regular service resumes.

  • Will I get a fine if I can't return my books?

No. Myli does not charge overdue fines — you will never be charged for returning an item late.
However, if an item is overdue for more than 42 days, it is automatically marked as “lost” in our system and a replacement fee will show on your account. This fee is removed as soon as the item is returned.

  • What happens to my holds if my stop is cancelled?

If your stop is cancelled and you are unable to collect your holds, contact our Support Team at support@myli.org.au or call 1800 44 6954. They can check your account and discuss options with you.

  • Is Myli planning to discontinue the Baw Baw Mobile Library service?

No. We are strongly committed to ensuring the Baw Baw community has ongoing access to local library services.

  • Why has the Baw Baw Mobile Library been off-road so much recently?

Driver availability and vehicle maintenance have affected the schedule.

Our regular driver is recovering from an injury, and there are only a few trained staff available to cover. Because the vehicle requires a heavy vehicle licence, only qualified staff can step in, which has limited coverage.

The vehicle is also an older truck that needs regular maintenance to remain safe and reliable.

Plan ahead: Disruptions are expected, and we are actively working on driver arrangements and providing weekly updates to keep you informed.

  • Any further questions?

If you have any questions or require further assistance, please contact our Support Team on 1800 44 6954, or access Live Chat at myli.org.au during business hours. Outside of business hours, please email us via support@myli.org.au.
