BIG Summer Read 2024-25

Pre-registration* opens: Monday 4 November 2024. 

Competition opens: Sunday 1 December 2024

Competition closes: Friday 31 January 2025

*Pre-registration for the Big Summer Read means you can sign up early, so you’re ready to dive into the challenge as soon as it starts on 1st December 2024. It’s a great way to get ahead and ensure you don’t miss out on the fun!

• Register at readbooks.com.au
• Select ‘Myli – My Community Library’ as your library to join the fun
• Participate by reading and logging either 10 books OR 10 x 30 minutes of reading between 1 Dec 2024 – 31 Jan 2025

*A paper Reading Journal can be collected from your local library branch, but please note that only participants registered through Read Books will be eligible for the statewide prize draw.

Prizes:

• Grand Prize: The first entry drawn will receive an Experience Voucher (1) and a Book Pack, with a combined total value of $200. The voucher can be redeemed at a range of approved local providers, including Gumbuya World, local cinemas, Moonlit Sanctuary, Phillip Island Nature Park, Zoos Victoria, IMAX, Wildlife Coast Cruises, and Museums Victoria.
• Second Prize: The second entry drawn will have the option to choose either an adjustable scooter or a $135 book pack, curated by our team.
• Additional Prizes: At least six prizes will be awarded per Shire (a total of at least 24 prizes). These may include puzzles, books, games, art resources, and toys.

Important Information: Winners of the experience voucher and book packs will be required to provide information about their reading preferences and chosen experience provider. If this information is not received within 14 days of contact, Myli staff will select the book pack and experience voucher on the winner’s behalf.

Readers can enter the statewide prize draw by registering for the Big Summer Read on Read Books and reading and recording 10 books between December 1st 2024 and January 31st 2025. At the conclusion of the program, prize winners will be drawn from 4 categories based on age:

0-4 years
5-8 years
9-12 years
13-18 years

Winners will be notified by their local library service.

All children between the ages of 0-18 are welcome to participate! Independent and non-independent readers can log any book they read, that is read to them, or listened to as an audio. We encourage parents and caregivers to continue to read aloud to young people during the summer school holidays and log these books as part of the challenge.

Children under the age of 13 will need their parent’s permission to register with the Read Books website.

No! You can pick up a paper Reading Journal at your local library branch from November 6, or download and print a copy from our website! Your paper Reading Journal must be submitted at your local Myli library branch before 31 January 2025. 

Please note that only participants registered through Read Books will be eligible for the statewide prize draw. All entries will be eligible for the local prize draw. 

In order to be eligible to win state wide prizes, participants must sign up to the Big Summer Read campaign and:

• Be between 0-18 years old and registered under a parent or legal guardian’s account OR
• Be between 13-18 years old on your own account OR
• Be over 18 years old with an intellectual disability

AND

Be a registered active member of a Victorian public Library Service. Prizes drawn on 12 February 2025. Winners will be notified by their Library Service.

Read and record 10 books during the Big Summer Read Challenge on the ReadBooks platform.
