Changes to Myli’s Digital Resources

Changes to Myli’s Digital Resources

At Myli, we’re always working to provide the best resources to our community. To ensure we’re using our budget effectively, we will be discontinuing two e-resources over the coming months:

  • Hoopla Digital (last day: May 4th)
  • Newsbank (last day: June 30th)

These services have had declining or low usage, making them unsustainable. Instead, we are investing in BorrowBox, which continues to grow in popularity and now offers eBooks, audiobooks and major newspapers.

Looking for alternatives?

  • BorrowBox offers a wide selection of reading and listening materials.
  • uLibrary also offers a selection of e-audiobooks.
  • Kanopy is available for movies, series and documentaries.
  • BorrowBox is continuing to work with regional newspapers to expand its collection of local publications.
  • Our library staff can help with book recommendations.

If you have any questions, please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions below or contact our Support Team on 1800 44 6954 or support@myli.org.au. We appreciate your understanding.

  • When will Hoopla and Newsbank become inactive?

Hoopla will cease on Sunday 4th of May. Newsbank will follow on Monday 30th of  June.

  • I use Hoopla and/or Newsbank. Why are they being removed?

We understand this change may be frustrating. Both resources have had declining or low usage and unfortunately, the cost of Hoopla was unpredictable and unsustainable. We’ve redirected this funding into BorrowBox, which offers a wide range of eBooks, eAudiobooks and ePress.

Additionally, Kanopy is a great alternative for movies, series, and documentaries. We’d love to help you explore these options!

  • What alternatives are available for Hoopla?

There are a number of alternative resources for Hoopla, including:

    • BorrowBox, which offers a wide selection of reading and listening materials.
    • uLibrary, which also offers a selection of e-audiobooks.
    • Kanopy is available for movies, series and documentaries.
  • What alternative is available for Newsbank?

Many major newspapers are now available through BorrowBox including the Herald Sun, The Australian and The Age.

    Local Newspaper content –

We are also working on adding more local newspapers, though this may take some time. If there’s a particular publication you’re looking for, please let us know and we’ll try to assist.
