The Close Knit Craft Group meets every Thursday from 1PM to 4PM at the Wonthaggi Library. This welcoming group combats social isolation, fostering connections across generations. Members range from young children learning to knit to seniors in their late 80s, creating a supportive environment where everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level.
Inclusivity is at the heart of the group. Free lessons in knitting and crochet are available, and participants are encouraged to bring their own projects. For some, it’s their only regular social contact—offering a space simply to connect, chat, and enjoy a sense of belonging.
The group’s impact goes beyond social support; they craft for a cause. Members donate handmade items like blankets, trauma teddies, scarves, and beanies to organizations such as Need for Feed, the Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre, and even international shelters in Ukraine.
To date, the group has donated over 50 full-sized blankets to various causes, and the most recent donation batch included nearly 200 items. These include:
- 21 full-sized blankets
- 13 baby blankets
- 4 baby swaddles
- 18 trauma teddies
- 11 wash cloths
- 10 scarves and shawls
- 83 beanies
- 21 children’s jumpers
- 3 pairs of booties
- 12 gloves/fingerless gloves
- 2 pairs of slippers
- 1 bag
Myli is proud to host the Close Knit Craft Group, providing an accessible, welcoming space where creativity, connection, and community spirit thrive. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and look forward to continuing this invaluable partnership.
