Interview: Cath from Wonthaggi’s Close Knit Group

We recently caught up with Cath from Wonthaggi’s Close Knit Group to talk about her experience volunteering with Myli.

1. How long have you volunteered with Myli?

I started volunteering during 2024 but have been involved in the Close Knit community project, which was a library initiated project back in 2018.

2. What does a typical day look like at the library?

• Sharing and storing donations
• Liaising with organisations to donate
• Facilitating Close Knit group
• Welcoming new participants
• Learning from others
• Sharing our individual projects
• Checking for donations
• Assisting with knitting/ crochet projects and finding the right person with appropriate knowledge

3. What is your favourite part of volunteering at Myli?

Being part of a group and making people feel comfortable and helping others

4. What motivated you to become a volunteer?

• Formalising the Close Knit group
• Helping others
• Sense of community

5. Can you share a memorable moment or interaction you’ve had while volunteering at Myli?

Receiving a photo and message of appreciation from a recipient of the Northern River Floods and from the Kids to Kids Charity Ukraine. The wonderful people that have come to the group and those anonymous people, who have donated yarn, blankets, teddies etc. for donations.
