February is all about new adventures for school kids.

It’s that time again – a new school year! The anxiety of starting a new school can be challenging – kids changing schools, starting high school or prep for the first time and making new friends. This can all seem overwhelming for some. We have listed some of our favourite resources below to help students and their families navigate the year ahead.

Beyond Blue and their Healthy Families program is all about giving you the information, knowledge and confidence to support the young people in your life – whether you’re a parent, guardian, grandparent, a favourite uncle or an awesome auntie.

Starting high school can be stressful, and on your first day, you might feel like the smallest, youngest and newest kid in your class. It’s okay to feel a little nervous about your first few weeks of school. It’s totally normal and many of your classmates will be feeling the same. Just remember to be yourself and embrace the changes that are ahead of you.

Headspace focuses on early intervention and works with young people to provide support at a crucial time in their lives. Anxiety can come and go – but for some people, it can stick around for a long time and end up having a big impact on their daily life. When this happens, it might be time to do something about it. Exercise of the Month: Exercising to reduce Anxiety

  • Yoga – helps to focus on breathing, which helps to slow down and calm the mind.

  • Bush Walking – Just 20mins in nature has shown to improve mood and reduce stress.

  • Running – causes lasting effects to your “feel good” neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine, both during and after exercise.
