Earlier this year, Inverloch Library branch manager Jo was approached by a couple of enterprising young patrons asking if she could start a Rubik’s Cube Club at the library. With the generous support of local business Greener Life Inverloch, who donated some communal cubes for the group, and the purchase of some speed timers, Inverloch Rubik’s Cubing Club is now up and running!
Jo says, ‘The club has been growing over the last four weeks, and it has been so wonderful to see the library alive in the evening; a time when we would usually be very quiet! Young teenagers gathering in the library, sharing knowledge and teaching each other. Kids meeting kids from other schools, making friends and having fun.
Harvey and Brock, the two original cubers, attend Cubing competitions all around Australia and have been unbelievably generous in sharing their tips. It’s incredible that the library has been buzzing right up to closing time for the last few weeks. I even have to remind the kids that we are closing! Other patrons in the library have commented how great it is to see kids in the library, and parents are re-joining and borrowing again. We even have a family that travels from Loch to attend!
To celebrate the end of term, we got pizzas to munch on while cubing. What an ace way to spend the end of a work day!’
Inverloch Rubik’s Cubing Club runs every Thursday from 4.30pm. This is a fun and relaxed group of cube enthusiasts. Got an unsolved cube? Bring it along and see if others can solve it! Some cubes are supplied for use in the library, but feel free to bring your own along! Bookings are not required. Please phone the library on 56741169 if you require more information.
Inverloch Library would like to thank Greener Life Inverloch for their support of the Rubik’s Cubing Club.
