What’s on for the school holidays?
Let’s start with the sad news first. We will not be running any in-branch events during the school holidays due to current Government restrictions on capacity limits in our library buildings *sad face*. Now that’s out of the way, let’s try again. What’s on for the school holidays? Well, the good news is we still have STACKS of things to keep you entertained over the hols. Let’s take a look!
Take and Make Crafts!
Our branches are open for you to browse and borrow books. While you’re visiting us, why not pick up a ‘Take and Make’ craft pack*. Our branches will have a variety of packs with instructions and materials to create fun craft activities at home. Call your local branch to find out what’s on offer.
*While supplies last. Packs will not be available from Mirboo North or Phillip Island.
On-demand video programs!
Our Early Years team have put together a range of video programs for you to enjoy at home. You’ll be able to follow along with the videos to create craft and STEM projects using simple items that you’ll find in the pantry or recycling tub. The on-demand format will mean you can view the videos at any time and as many times as you like! Click on the link below to watch videos on how to make pom-poms and handmade jewellery, design a fun pirate treasure map, learn how plants breathe and take a look at what’s in Shannyn’s craft box! You can also browse more craft and STEAM videos on our website.
School holidays are the PERFECT time to snuggle up with a good book. If you’re looking for something new to read, visit us in branch to browse the shelves. Our friendly librarians always have excellent recommendations, so don’t forget to chat to them about titles you might enjoy. We love recommending books so much that we even have a video series of books we think you’ll love. If you’re heading away for the holidays (lucky you!) and can’t fit books into your suitcase, make sure you download our BorrowBox and Libby books by Overdrive apps. There are loads of e-books (books you read) and e-audiobooks (books you listen to) on these platforms. Libby even has digital magazines so you can download and flick through while relaxing beside the pool.
For the little ones!
We miss seeing those happy little faces in our branches for StoryTime, but the great news is that we still have StoryTime Online. Watch your favourite presenters read a story and singing songs anytime, anywhere! You can also sing and dance during our Songs and Rhymes videos. We also recommend that you check out StoryBox Library for a terrific range of books read by your favourite authors, actors and talented folks, including the new Auslan storytime readings.
We’ve got a great variety of online resources for you to use at home. If you want to learn how to program virtual robots, check out Coderz. Busy Code and Busy Things will keep you entertained for hours (and you’ll learn something new too!). Animalia Education takes you on an adventure through one of the world’s most beloved picture books. If you love getting creative, take a look at Creativebug. It’s our new online resource and we think you’ll love it as much as we do!
We hope you enjoy the school holidays!
