Our Home Library Service

Our Home Library Service

As part of your role as a Myli Volunteer, you may be asked to participate in our Home Library Service deliveries.

Being a Home Library Service volunteer requires a number of skills. Selecting items for a passionate, long term reader can take some time and effort but the reward of finding the perfect read is very satisfying.

It’s not always easy finding the right items. With good listening skills, collecting from displays and training to use Myli’s catalogue to place holds, a good selection can be found.

You will talk to the patrons about:

  • What they like to read
  • How many things they’d like to receive
  • Any specific titles or authors
  • If they would like a selection of items to browse through
  • How to access our e-resources
  • What are their interests and hobbies?

One of our fabulous volunteers, Leonie from Pakenham, selects and delivers to six home library recipients. While most volunteers for the service begin with one patron, Leonie would always ask if there were any more people needing assistance.

Patrons who receive this free service are always so grateful, not just for the items but to speak with fellow book lovers. We are a community library and volunteering for the home library service enhances our community for both the recipient and volunteer.
