Emerald Library – Staff Book Recommendations

Emerald Library – Staff Book Recommendations

Our Emerald Library team have shared their current book recommendations and we are loving them! You might even find your next book by reading their reviews below.

Emily’s Recommendation:

‘Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries’ by Heather Fawcett –

This book is the perfect, snuggled-under-a-blanket, winter read. A cosy fantasy with low stakes, light romance, whimsical plot, enchanting atmosphere and easy to love characters. It was a perfect, easy and enjoyable read!

Siobhan’s Recommendation:

‘Witchsign’ by Den Patrick –

I am an avid reader of fantasy and how the authors create these worlds, especially if they provide a map at the start. So, when a regime that had overthrown the magic of the old ways still causes suffering throughout the land, something is bound to break – especially when friends and family are caught in the crossfire. Although I just started this series, I believe it will be an interesting journey throughout the Empire.

Anna’s Recommendation:

‘Showing Up: Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable’ by Nedd Brockmann

I love reading books about people doing incredible things. Nedd Brockmann set off to run across Australia from Perth to Sydney. A few times during his adventure, it looked like he wasn’t going to make it, but after just 47 days, he ran over the finish line in Sydney, having run an average of 86 km per day! I listened to this book as an eAudiobook from Borrowbox, which gave me the added pleasure of hearing Nedd himself tell his story.

Maria’s Recommendation:

‘The Chronicles of St Mary’s’ by Jodi Taylor

I have recently discovered this new series, “The Chronicles of St Mary’s” and I’m really enjoying it. It’s described as “the story of a bunch of disaster-prone individuals who investigate major historical events in contemporary time. Do NOT call it time travel!” Amusing & quirky, great characters, with bad guys too! It’s an entertaining read and has a little Terry Pratchett vibe.
