Book Week 2021 – 21st to 27th August 2021
Each year since 1945 the Children’s Book Council of Australia has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time, schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children’s authors and illustrators.
The theme for Book Week in 2021 is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds and features a stunning artwork by Shaun Tan. Books really do transport us to other worlds, especially while we are staying safe at home.
Book Week Dress Up Ideas.
Every year schools and Early Years centres hold dress up days to celebrate Book Week. We are crossing our fingers and toes that we’ll be able to host some special StoryTime sessions in our library branches too.
Our Programs Officer Jenny has put together some wonderfully simple ideas to help you create very special Book Week costumes using items you will find in the cupboard at home. Click on the pictures below to take a closer look.
We encourage you to come into your local library and browse the shelves. We have plenty of inspiration! We also love this blog from Children’s Books Daily filled with costume ideas, and this podcast from Your Kid’s Next Read.
CBCA Book of the Year 2021
In 1946 the CBCA established annual book awards to promote children’s books of high literary and artistic quality. These awards are now the most influential and highly respected in Australia. The winner and honour awards for 2021 will be announced on 20th August. Congratulations to all of the shortlisted authors, illustrators and publishers for 2021. Take a look at the short list here.
