Libraries are closed but still here for you

Libraries are closed but still here for you

After being open for almost six weeks, libraries are now closed again during the latest Stage 3 COVID restrictions. “It’s been a changing and ever-evolving few months and we’d like to thank our staff who continue to show outstanding resilience and innovation adapting to these changes. We’d also like to thank our communities who have been sending us supportive messages and positive feedback.” Leanne Williams, CEO.

The WGL team have been busy purchasing new titles, both the physical variety, as well as ebooks and eaudiobooks with the latest addition to the emagazine collection, 3,400+ titles are now available to library members on RB Digital.

WGL are excited to announce the launch of the next iteration of the highly successful Books By Us: School Publishing Collaboration project. Nansi Kunze, local author and passionate supporter of public libraries and literacy, is the creative mind behind this concept. The innovative Books By Us concept turns classrooms into publishing houses. This year, the program has been adapted to an online format, giving the senior primary students at Yarragon Primary School the opportunity to create their very own books. “We are grateful to receive some funding towards the program from Victoria Writers Centre and Grace Marion Wilson Trust.” Kathie Olden, Manager Volunteers and Community Participation.

WGL are continuing our Home Delivery Service via Australia Post for all members within the area. Call a branch or register online for a resource parcel with a choice of genre which can include books, audiobooks, dvds and magazines, delivered free to your home. “We’re also continuing our Caring Calls program, reaching out to some of our most vulnerable and disconnected members to offer our home delivery service and any support we can during these challenging times.” Leanne Williams, CEO.

All loan due dates have been automatically extended to Thursday 1st October including any items checked out for home deliveries, so there is no need to return items until the libraries reopen. Holds are not available to pick-up at this time. However, book boxes are available through our Home Delivery Service via Australia Post. Staff will make every effort to include holds in this delivery.

While the libraries are closed, support is available by calling branches during opening hours, email or the new live chat feature on the website, 9am-5pm weekdays. For further support with online resources, including setting up and using library apps on your favourite digital device, book a Tech Talk for a 20 minute, one-on-one call with a library staff member.

A range of virtual events and programs are available online for all ages, to enjoy from the comfort of your home.
