New Library of Things Booking System – FAQs

New Library of Things Booking System – FAQs

We’ve listened to your feedback and moved to a calendar-based system, LibCal, that puts you in control of your Library of Things (LOT) booking.

During the initial transition phase, current holds will be transferred to LibCal in their existing order. You’ll be booked into a specific timeslot according to your current hold position.

If you have any questions, please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions below:

  • Why have you transitioned to LibCal?

LibCal allows patrons to book LOT items at a time that suits them. Some items, such as our Reusable Party Kits, are often needed for specific events. Moving to a calendar-based system will help patrons can access the items when they need them and provide greater understanding of item availability.

  • Do I still need to have a LOT membership?

No. Library of Things items can now be borrowed by anyone 18 or over with a full Myli membership. They must also have less than $10 owing on their accounts.

  • How do I make a booking on LibCal?
    1. Visit our website and open the Library of Things booking page
    2. Find the item you would like to borrow
    3. Select a pickup date (green = available)
    4. Check the booking details are correct and then select ‘Add to Cart & Checkout’
    5. Login with your library card account details
    6. Fill out the form and agree to the Terms & Conditions
    7. Click ‘Submit my Booking’
    8. Look out for the confirmation email with your booking details and next steps.

For step-by-step instructions and accompanying images on how to make a booking with LibCal, please see our Booking Guide, here: LibCal Booking Guide

  • Why are my holds no longer showing on my account?

Holds/bookings are now managed by the LibCal system so will not be viewable via your regular Myli account.

  • Will I lose my current position on the holds list?

No. All current holds will be transferred to LibCal in their existing order. You’ll be booked into a specific timeslot according to your current hold position.

  • I had existing holds but I haven’t received a booking slot, what do I do?

If you had an existing hold but haven’t received your booking slot via email, please contact the Myli Support Centre via 1800 44 6954 or support@myli.org.au.

  • Why is my booking so far away?

All current holds will be transferred to LibCal in their existing order. You’ll be booked into a specific timeslot according to your current hold position. Wait times will vary depending on the popularity of the LOT item.

  • How will I know when a LOT item is ready to collect?

During the initial transition phase, all holds will be booked in order of their holds queue position. You will receive an email with your collection date and your pick up location.

  • How will I be notified about my bookings?

All communication through LibCal is via email. SMS is not an option with the LibCal system so please ensure your email address is correct.

  • What if I no longer need my item/want to cancel my booking?

If you no longer need your item or would like to cancel, please contact your local library branch or the Myli Support Team.

  • What if I can’t collect on the date I have been assigned?

If you are unable to collect your LOT booking on the date you have been assigned, please contact your local library branch or the Myli Support Team.

  • I’ve made a LibCal booking but haven’t received confirmation, what do I do?

Each booking request is reviewed and confirmed by our Myli Libraries Team, which means confirmation of your booking may take up to 72 hours. If you still haven’t received a booking confirmation email after 72 hours, please contact the Myli Support Team.

  • Can I renew LOT items?

Renewals are not permitted for Library of Things items.

  • How long is the loan period?

Loan periods are fixed (no extensions or renewals), with a booking period between 3-7 days chosen at the time of booking. Items must be returned on time to ensure no one misses out on their chance to borrow.

Booking periods will also depend on the LOT item. For example, sports items such as surfboards and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) have a maximum of 3 day booking period.

  • What if I can’t return the items on time?

Items must be returned on or before the due date to ensure no one misses out on their booking period. Late returns will result in an automatic 3-month suspension from booking in LibCal.

  • How many LOT can I borrow at once?

There is a borrowing limit of 3 items at any one time.

  • Can I pick up LOT items from any Myli library?

During this initial transition period, Library of Things (LOT) items cannot be collected from Neerim South Library, Poowong Library, or the Cardinia and Baw Baw Mobile Libraries. Additional pick up locations may be added later next year if there is capacity to do so.
