Evelyn is a Year 10 student at a local Gippsland high school. She participated in work experience at Myli – My Community Library in June 2023 and kindly wrote an update for the Myli News blog about her time with us.
Since I could remember, books and stories have been a huge part of my life, offering a place to escape to and providing me with valuable opportunities to learn. Choosing to complete my work experience with the library team has been an invaluable opportunity, allowing me to work alongside the welcoming and knowledgeable team members. The people I’ve met have been nothing but kind and provided insight into the various tasks undertaken across the Myli branches.
During the week, I assisted in StoryTime, sorted shelves (and seeds for the Seed Library), and experienced picking up and dropping off books at various library branches, including Pakenham, Emerald, and the Mobile Library. The incredible team is very community-driven, with carefully planned events and projects that benefit the community and provide people with the space to learn and socialize.
The time I spent at Myli has shown me just how much work goes on that I wouldn’t have expected, and to experience the dedication each person has for the job has been an eye-opening experience. Participating in this incredible community and welcoming environment for the week has been a wonderful opportunity and provided valuable experience that is certain to help me in future endeavours.
