Libraries really are more than just books! Inverloch Library is now home to two 10ft stand up paddleboards for Myli members to borrow free of charge. They add to our library corporation’s existing outdoor equipment, which includes surfboards, a skateboard, and walking poles.
We partnered with Bass Coast Shire Council and would like to thank Lucy Cousens for her invaluable assistance with this project. Lucy was appointed as the BCSC Community Connector for the Community Activation and Social Isolation Initiative (CASI) during the COVID19 pandemic in 2020. Her focus in this role was to strengthen community connectedness and resilience. With Lucy’s support and guidance, we obtained funding to purchase two stand up paddleboards. It is important to have two SUPs available to share the experience with others and build social connections in a fun and active way. It is also much safer to be out on the water with company.
The cost of stand-up paddleboards can be prohibitive for many people so having the opportunity to access a board with your library membership is a valuable resource. Getting out into nature also supports good mental health. The boards were ordered in 2021, but due to delays with manufacturing and shipping, they arrived at the Inverloch branch in April 2022. We are so thrilled to finally have them available for our community to enjoy.
Myli members Madeline and Alice took the boards out on their maiden voyage! Madeline said ‘What a fantastic initiative. We had the best time out on the inlet with the family’.
